Maine single-trip oversize permit fee

Those are the Maine single-trip overlimit brackets on Chapter 156 Tables 1–4, for one movement from a single origin to a single destination. When more than one limit is exceeded, the fee is the higher of the excess-weight, length, width, or height brackets.

Chapter 156 §4: “Except for Long Term Permits, the fee charged when more than one limit is exceeded is based on the limit requiring the higher fee.”

Table 1 excess weight is over the listed legal GVW for the axle count (34,000 / 54,000 / 69,000 / 80,000 / 100,000 lb as printed). Table 2 length is over the printed legal length. Table 3 width is over 102 inches. Table 4 height is over 14 feet.

29-A M.R.S. §2382(2) authorizes single-trip fees “at not less than $6, nor more than $30, based on weight, height, length and width.” The Chapter 156 tables max at $27.50. We are posting the tables. We are not replacing $27.50 with the statutory $30 cap, and we are not deleting the cap.

The BMV landing does not reprint the tables. It does print a separate Turnpike product: “Turnpike oversize and overlength permits may be obtained at any Maine Turnpike toll plaza for a fee of $10 (not including the applicable toll). Vehicle must also have a separate overlimit permit from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles for travel on all non-Turnpike highways.” That $10 is not the statewide highway fee.
